Cysteine is a semi-essential proteinogenic amino acid. Naturally occurring cysteine is found foods such as meat, eggs, dairy, red peppers, garlic, onions, brussel sprouts, broccoli, oats, granola and wheat germ. The majority of L-cysteine is obtained industrially by the hydrolysis of human hair, poultry feathers, or hog hair, with human hair being the preferred method due to its efficiency in producing large quantities of L-cysteine. Synthetically produced L-cysteine, is also available.
