Palm kernel oil is pressed out of the kernel or seed found at the center of the fruits of the oil palm (Elaeis guineensis). Despite being vegetable fat, palm kernel oil is relatively high in saturated fats and can appear as semi-solid in temperate or cooler areas.  Palm oil, which has a fatty acid content that is more stable at high heat than other vegetable oils, is the oil obtained from the fruit of a palm tree.
