Garlic Powder
Garlic powder is the dehydrated, ground form of garlic. Garlic, Allium sativum, is a variety of onion that has a rich historical background of use in culinary and medicinal realms. The bulb of the garlic plant holds many fleshy cloves wrapped in layers of papery skin. These dried and ground into a white powder that is very low in calories and sodium, but high in flavor. Garlic has many purported health benefits including antibacterial, antifungal, vasodilative, cholesterol-lowering, immune system boosting properties. Some individuals may have allergic reactions to garlic, especially those with allergies to plants from the lily family, and should avoid ingestion.
