Calcium sulfate, also termed E516, is a food additive prepared from calcium salts and sulfuric acid. It exists as an odorless, white powder. It is used as an acidity regulator, bulking agent, emulsifying salt, flour treatment agent, stabilizer, and thickener. There are no known side effects to it use in foods.
