At Hunt's we say "NO" to chemicals like lye*. Instead, we peel our tomatoes with Flashsteam®, from simple hot water. This allows us to get more out of every tomato, which means less waste in landfills and no chemical by-products go back into the earth.
We just think it's the right thing to do.
*Lye peeling is generally recognized as safe by the FDA and has no adverse effects on the healthfulness of tomatoes.

Hunt’s was started by Joseph and William Hunt in the late 1800's in California. The company began as a fruit cannery and quickly grew to include vegetables and tomatoes. Ever since, Hunt’s has provided great tasting tomatoes, grown in the ideal conditions provided by California’s central valley. Our tomatoes are grown using sustainable drip irrigation and picked at the peak of ripeness.
