Silicon dioxide is a common additive in the production of foods, where it is used primarily as a flow agent in powdered foods, or to adsorb water in hygroscopic applications. Silicon dioxide is a natural compound made of two of the earth’s most abundant materials silicon and oxygen. It is used to prevent clumping in powdered ingredients.
