Wine is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting varieties of grapes.  Other ‘wines’ can be made from various fruits but are then named from the fruit being used.  Wine can be red, white or blush. White wine is made from light-coloured grape varieties and red wine is made from dark-coloured grape varieties. Other drinks called "wine", such as rice wine (e.g., sake), are made from starch-based materials and resemble beer more than traditional wine.
